This first installation of its kind began from a search for material integrity. I wanted to illustrate clay’s relationship to life-sustaining elements (salt, oxygen, water), building a site-specific, ephemeral installation that focused on the proximity of clay to the human body, alive at a microscopic level with material memory. This 5-day long clay mound installation captured the slow transformation of clay particles from malleable to solid and solid returning to a liquid form.
