This work is about connecting to my fragmented Chinese heritage. Working through the intersecting layers of queerness, disability, femininity and race - These ritual objects are a reimagining of cultural futures, merging the old and the new, the real and the fantastical, existing as a hybridized manifestation of a hyphenated identity. This series explores the complexities of self-tokenism, agency and the synonymous history of Orientalism / Ornamentalism and its relationship to defining objects, bodies and personhood.
